What to expect

At your first appointment, you will enjoy a relaxing foot bath of salt water and essential oils while you complete a short medical history form. Before your treatment begins, Amy will ask additional questions about your health history and discuss your specific concerns. You can also address any questions you may have at this time.

During the session, you will lay face up on a massage table with your knees and feet elevated. You can expect precise pressure – more than you might typically experience during a massage. A typical treatment lasts approximately 50 minutes.

Certain areas may feel more sensitive than others. The tenderness often decreases as your practitioner works and you begin to relax. Your therapist will not avoid the tender areas, but will work within your comfort level. Speak up if you feel discomfort so she can adjust your treatment.

Responses to reflexology can vary. After a treatment, you may feel calm and relaxed, or you may feel energized. Sometimes people initially experience fatigue after a session, but notice an increase of energy over the following days.

Like many complementary and alternative therapies, the health effects of reflexology are cumulative. The more consistent your treatments, the more your body will respond. Your reflexologist will help you decide the optimal frequency of treatments to meet your specific needs. A treatment series of 6-8 reflexology sessions in 3-4 weeks, followed by another 6-8 sessions every 2-3 weeks apart typically provides the most noticeable benefits, depending on your specific health concerns. Many health issues may be mitigated with therapeutic maintenance protocol of one treatment every 4-6 weeks.
